The Peugeot 5008 is a stylish family MPV that offers great comfort, huge practicality and is good to drive.
The Peugeot 5008 comes with the option of one petrol engine and two diesel variants. The petrol engine is the three cylinder 1.2 litre PureTech with 130bhp mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox. The diesel option consist of the four cylinder 1.6 litre BlueHDi with 120bhp and comes with the choice of a 6-speed manual or automatic transmission. The second diesel option is the 2.0 litre BlueHDi with 150bhp mated to a 6-speed manual. All options deliver good economy but the petrol can feel sluggish in the big 5008. The 1.6 provides decent power but avoid the unpredictable automatic.
The 5008 may be a large family MPV designed to carry family members or many adults in comfort, but surprisingly it provides an enjoyable drive too. It has sharp and precise steering and thanks to the clever Dynamic Roll Control, it manages the bends well too. If you go for the most powerful 2.0 diesel engine, you can make the most of the performance available. The 2.0 also provides the best pulling power while still returning a very respectable mpg.
The 5008 comes with a choice of three trim levels to choose from. These are Active, Family Style and Allure. It comes with a very decent level of kit as standard from Active trim that includes front and rear parking sensors, electric windows front and back, electrically folding door mirrors, CD & MP3, Bluetooth connectivity and a multi-function steering wheel. Allure trim only adds a colour head-up display and rear privacy glass while Family Style also adds leather seats and the rather cool Peugeot Connect Video packs featuring screens in the rear headrest for playing DVD’s and video games.
The 5008 has a unique styled dashboard that works really well. Similar to the smaller 3008, it has a wraparound effect on the driver’s side with all functions and instruments at the driver’s fingertips. There is a reassuring sense of quality, mainly down to the use of high quality materials and contrast glass inserts across the dashboard and down the centre console. All of the switches and toggles feel solid and durable to the touch in a car that is likely to see the brunt of family use. It also provides some of the most comfortable seats in its class. You will cover many miles with ease in the 5008.
The 5008 is a very safe family transporter receiving the full five star rating in Euro NCAP crash testing. Its generous standard level of safety technology helped the cause with features that includes six airbags, electronic stability control, traction control, anti-lock brakes, hill assist, emergency brake assist, ISO-FIX, cruise control and speed limiter and ultrasonic alarm.
A combination of a clever seating arrangement and vast amounts of space help to make the Peugeot 5008 one of the most versatile cars in its class. Each individual seats can be moved and folded. They can even be reclined for rear passengers to enjoy a nap on long journeys. There is good storage throughout the cabin thanks to a number of cubbies and decently sized door pockets. Head and legroom is more than generous for any sized passenger, front and rear. Boot size is a whopping 679 litre capacity beating the Citroen C4 Grand Picasso and Ford Galaxy. This can be opened up to a vast 2506 litres with the rear seats folded.
