This is high performance at its best. Get your wallet ready, you're gonna want one of these! The AMG GT-Class is among the costliest that Mercedes-Benz has to offer, but despite its very high cost, it's very easy to fall in love with this car. The figures are staggering, but apart from its looks, it's power is only really suited to tracks and unrestricted roads o this world. We still want one though!
There are two engine options available to the Irish market. Both choices are twin turbocharged 4 litre V8 engines, but one offers 462 bhp, while the other ups that figure to 510. The difference between the two will matter hugely t the real petrol heads out there, but with the 462bhp version offering 0-100km/h in just 4 seconds, and the other engine just being 0.2 of a second faster, we would consider saving the nearly €30,000 in the price difference between the two. But then again, this car is only really for the loaded among us! Top speed in the AMG GT is 304km/h, while the quicker GTS reaches 310km/h.
In terms of how this car drives, well... you get what you pay for. This car is brilliant on the road. This is a front-engined car and its rear wheel drive offers amazing grip. It also offers AMG ride control - which delivers power to each wheel as it is required. The suspension is as firm as it should be and it loves smooth surfaces. This car unsurprisingly offers a thrilling drive. It growls and will push you back in your seat if you dare to put the foot down. Apart from it being a performance vehicle, in typical Mercedes fashion, it will also allow you to just sit back and cruise.
Of course, this car does pick up road noise, and the right engine growls come through to the cabin. This is definitely as refined as it should be!
The interior of this vehicle is stunning. Everything has been designed around the driver. The centre console's V Shape is a very nice touch too.
It should not come as a surprise that this vehicle has not undergone NCAP testing. Demand does not warrant it. However, this is jam-packed with safety equipment. It has plenty of airbags and comes with excellent driver safety programmes such as Collision Prevention Assist and more.
This is not a practical car. It wasn't designed to bring kids in their droves to football matches. It does have enough room for your golf clubs though. Also... be ready to fuel up!
