Style & Design
5/10

Not the most exciting design in the world, although the interesting window treatment does lift the profile somewhat. It’s one of those cars that was designed from the inside out, which explains the functional shape. Still, the detailing could have been better - just look at the Modus.

Performance
4/10

The Climbing 4X4 is the slowest car on sale in Ireland: 100km/h takes 20 whole seconds and top speed is 145km/h. The 1.1 can reach 100km/h in 15 seconds, while the 1.2 knocks a second off that time. The 1.3 JTD reaches 100km/h in just 13 seconds, and is also the fastest laden and for overtaking.

Ride & Handling
7/10

The Panda doesn’t handle too badly, with a rather sharp steering and reasonable body control. You won’t throw it around like a hot hatch, but it allows you enjoy the drive to work at least. The ride is comfortable unless the road gets really cut up, and it feels bigger than such a small car should.

Interior & Ergonomics
8/10

The smaller the Fiat, the better it gets. The Panda’s interior is one of their best, with excellent layout and superb ergonomics. The high-mounted stereo and funky switches are especially nice. The driving position is a little cramped for taller drivers, but overall it’s a great driving environment.

Quality & Refinement
6/10

The interior of the Panda has a solidity to it you find in no other Fiat product, bizarrely. The plastics could be better, but they’re not the worst either, and the whole thing feels well bolted together. Its refinement on the move is quite good too, but sound-proofing is a little wanting.

Safety
5/10

The Panda only has a 3-Star NCAP rating, which is a bit disappointing compared to the likes of the 5-Star Modus. It has twin airbags; ISOFIX child seat mounts, three 3-point seat belts and two headrests in the rear, and that’s all. Side bags are optional, as are parking sensors and ESP.

Space & Practicality
7/10

The rear of the Panda is fairly roomy, given how small the car is, but the seats don’t do anything clever other than split and fold. The boot is a respectable size and there are plenty of storage nooks dotted about the cabin, making it a fairly useful package overall.

Value & Running Costs
9/10

The Panda offers a lot of car for the money, undercutting most superminis on price, but still offering as much space and equipment. Running costs will be minuscule, and the Panda shouldn’t be too hard to sell on when you’re done, especially in the right spec.

Equipment
7/10

Base Pandas get a CD player, electric windows, central locking and roof bars. The Dynamic adds electric mirrors, remote locks and trip computer, while the Emotion includes 14-inch alloys, climate control and stereo remote controls. It’s cheap, so why not spoil yourself?

Engine Specifications
4/10

There are only three engines offered in Ireland, and they’re pretty weak little things. The coarse 1.1 stirs up just 54bhp, while the equally strained 1.2 manages only 6 bhp more. The 1.3 diesel has a useful 145Nm of torque but only 70bhp, so it’s no ball of fire either.

Went from a 3 series BMW to this and Love it. Cheap, economical and comfortable
