Additional Info

We've had this car for one year after buying it f in 2016. It is an excellent car and has never let us down. we have just taxed and NCT'd it. Space is excellent to both the front and rear. The price is very reasonable. I'm selling it because our family is growing.

Style & Design
7/10

The C1 shares its basic styling with the Peugeot 107 and Toyota Aygo but, like the others, still manages to look distinctive and brand-unique. High-mounted lights and plastic bumper inserts are ideal for urban warfare, but painted bumpers will look shabby in time.

Performance
5/10

The C1 the fastest accelerating of its three siblings, presumably because of different gearing. It’s half a second faster than the 107 at 13.7 seconds, but down a few clicks at 157km/h all out. Weighing just 790 kg, extra passengers and luggage can seriously affect performance, though.

Ride & Handling
6/10

The C1’s chassis is surprisingly composed given its size, with a decent ride and acceptable roadholding. The steering is dreadfully slow, though, and makes the car feel cumbersome rather than nippy. The brakes, clutch and gearbox are all light and reasonably slick.

Interior & Ergonomics
5/10

The C1's cabin is no less disappointing than its siblings’. Taller drivers will feel cramped; the stereo and heater controls are busy-looking and the dash glows a distracting shade of orange at night. The stick-on rev counter is annoying, too. Visibility and maneouvreability are excellent, though.

Quality & Refinement
6/10

Citroen’s C1 is surprisingly refined on the move - the engine settles into a quiet thrum and motorway refinement is impressive. It also seems very well constructed, although the quality of the plastics used is very utilitarian and the heater looks and feels very cheap.

Safety
5/10

The C1 has a 107/Aygo-matching 4-star NCAP score, and has twin airbags and cornering stability control as standard. However, the electric windows lack anti-pinch and rear headrests, side airbags and ISOFIX child seat mounts are offered only on SX. Curtain airbags and ESP are not available.

Space & Practicality
7/10

The rear of the C1 is surprisingly accommodating, with wide-opening rear doors and decent space for sub-6-ft rear passengers. The boot is small, the rear seat doesn't slide to generate extra room and there's no glovebox lid, but there are cubby holes everywhere and it's a doddle to park!

Value & Running Costs
8/10

The C1 is very competitively priced (the same as the 107) and reasonably equipped for the money. It should cost peanuts to run, and the Toyota engine and hardware means it should be reliable too. It won't hold its value as well as the Toyota Aygo, though.

Equipment
2/10

The basic C1 has a two-speaker CD player but manual locks and windows, no rear headrests, no boot cover and no split in the folding rear seats. The SX adds remote locks and electric windows, but no electric mirrors. A rev-counter, CD changer and alloys are optional, but A/C isn’t available.

Engine Specifications
6/10

Only one engine availabe, a 68bhp, 95Nm 1.0-litre three-cylinder that loves to be thrashed. Sadly, the 1.4 HDi diesel isn't offered here; but on the plus side, Citroen has also dropped the awful clutch-less manual.
