Extremely expensive to maintain and not as reliable as people think. Warranty Directs yearly 'Reliability Index' proves this too despite what those clowns on Top Gear would have you believe. Lots of wear on front suspension, cv joints, cv boots, ball joints, arms and links all need maintaining or replacement regularly. Strong economical engine, some issues with EGR valve, injectors and air flow meters though. Servicing at VW dealers will bankrupt you..

Massive! The boot is huge and with the seats folded flat you could live in it. Service is pricey enough - I don't use a main dealer as I've 176k kms up on it so there's no point. Anytime I have gone to a main dealer I've come away a lot poorer. The one thing you should look out for but you can't is the injectors! There's four of them and so far two of mine have gone without warning! It's €1000 a pop to replace them and you have no way of knowing if or when they might go again. Bushes wearing are a common fault (failed my last NCT because of one). Rear wiper motor had to be replaced which again was not cheap. Just before Xmas 2010, I got a leak in the coolant system - steam everywhere. The replacement part is €100 and it takes 10 working days to get it!!! WTF? No car for two weeks because the dealer doesn't stock bog standard parts? Luckily a local garage was able to patch me up free of charge while waiting for the part. Apart from buying it from a dealer I've not been back to them except to get the major jobs mentioned above done. Like all VW dealers, they know how to charge for parts. Large comfortable car - mine is an estate. The Highline has plenty of extras like leather, cruise, heated seats etc. Performance is excellent and comfort on long or short journeys is second to none. I forgot to mention, it's also an automatic with the DSG gearbox which is super smooth. On average I'm getting 6.6l / 100km which is quite good for a big automatic car..

excellant, could fit a citroen in to it. great make sure the timing belt was changed, especially after 70k. and don't buy anything less than 130bhp. oh don't get me started, realy crap, dealers in ireland should be burnt out. the best car i have ever had in my life, totally brill, great space, comfort and reliability with super power and good looks, i wish i still had her now, "miss you babe".

Huge boot A few little issues but bullet proof otherwise. timing belt is an expensive job, every 60k miles, but shop around for prices. Imported cars need mileage check, very easy to clock these cars. if you looking for a 130bhp beware most people can't tell the difference by driving the car. The only way to check is to check in the boot beside the spare wheel, there is a sticker with the VIN number, it also have the KW rating if this is not 97KW its not a 130BHP. don't be fooled by at red DI on the boot or engine cover. GSF in dublin for parts avoid main dealers as they are a rip off. Very comfortable car, excellent for long journeys or the long daily commute. Always look for the comfortline with A/C, arm rest etc.

Good. Good local VW garage. Not sure, they still hold the value well. Good. Cool, great looking car with extras. Needs a bigger engine than a 1.6 for the size of this car. Not big enough for family with 3 small kids & all that goes with 3 small kids..

huge boot....fits my golf clubs and football gear... had it serviced for nct and it had one small problem. few people told me it was dodge buying VW but there have been zero problems. Dealer reliability. I would defo go for WOM Very good dealer and always was helpful. The other fella i was going to buy from didnt even ring me back. I have owned this car for the past two years now, and in comparison to other cars I have driven there really is none. It is a much bigger car to what I have previously experienced, and the engine size (1.9 Turbo Diesel) makes it a great car to drive. From a comfort viewpoint, it is second to none also. I was a little worried about the high mileage but being a previous company car, that large amount was expected, and the fact it was still in great condition made me confidant that it was a sensible purchase, and I have not been proved wrong. Driving sometimes is an exercise, but it is made easier in this car. Its suits all I do as is big and looks well when turning up to work meetings in terms of setting some sort of positive impression, and is more than big enough to fit me gaelic gear, golf clubs and other stuff no bother. Negatives – I am always asked to drive on weekends away..

Its the 130bhp model, lots of poke. I bought it with 97k on clock with UK reg and now have 131k up. No rattles or knocks yet but I know if something goes wrong I'll have to fork out lots of twine. So far I can't fault it and would take a chance on another one.It did have a VW fsh and owned by a VW lease company. I verified the mileage by phoning the last service shop which was stamped in the book. A verified VW fsh would be a must if I buy one again. I put the condition of my present one down to this. So buy one but do your research on it before you part with your cash..

have 130k up now, 22k of which i have done, its an english car and motorway miles. The car is very efficient on fuel, is very reliable, and i work it hard, drive it every day on both long and short journeys. i find that if something goes on the car, its best to get it sorted without delay. Overall i am very happy with the car. As far as i can see, if the car is looked after from new, there will be very few problems with them. Stay clear of the petrol models, they're demons on jiuce..

very expensive to maintain once they increase in age. Time for it to go now and will prbably be replaced with a ford or seat.

Bought car from dealer in glassonwho brought it in from the uk, car was well serviced, well looked after, had 108k on the clock, motorway mile so she was well broken in for me, drives lovley, just over 600 miles to a tank of diesel(just less if run on biodiesel, but an awful lot cheaper). I am extremely happy with this car. the heated seats are beautifull. its only fault is that there is a strut across the boot limiting the amount of usable space(i cant load my bands PA system)..

engine is "bulletproof" so I've been told, never had any problems. Nice acceleration even if it is only 105BHP. Tons of space in the interior and boot. Great car all-round.

T-belt costs a fortune to replace. Speakers in back door have packed it in, an I hate the pool under the drivers seat. Gotta replace it, I've got tendonitis in my shoulder from the clunky gearbox..

as a family car, absolutely fantastic.both centre consol and glove box chilled, each door hols 1 litre bottle, compartment on drivers door for umberella, excellent boot space. Mechanically, the 2.0 tdi is great to drive, because of the 16v engine above idle very little engine noise, and revs much more freely than the old PD. at 18k miles service and genuine parts very reasonable, its very cheap to run , returning on average 45-50 mpg.Mine is very highly spec'd, only let down here is vw very stingy with standard kit. Highly advisable car to consider.ill buy the same again.

Handles well, nice turn of speed for a big estate. Fuel consumption is terrible (about 26 - 28 miles per gallon), or around 550km per 60litre tankfull. If you buy one, get the oil changed at least every 15 miles km. Residual values very low, you'd be better off with the TDI..

Automatic diesels are hard to come by so this Passat came along at just the right time. Was not looking for a V6 but it was fully loaded (heated leather, climate, tiptronic, 6 cd changer, alloys to name a few) and came in on budget. Performance is phenomenal and fuel economy, while not being as frugal as the 1.9 would have been, is still great..

Very good car. I imported mine from England at 30K on the clock. Now at 70K and no issues. Really comfortable and does something like 50 to the gallon or slightly over it. A bit hard on front tires. I use bridgestone which are good tires and they do about 15k on the front but apart from that it's a great car..
