the Prius makes an excellent alternative to traditional automatic luxury cars.Bigger than you|d think. Don|t buy for mpg figs as claimed (67mpg ) more like late 40|s around town. But one of the most relaxing cars to drive in traffic jams, zero noise and vibration. Great acceleration in on country runs.Stress free motoring in the era of penalty points. go for lux pack with cruise control and powerfull cd stereo. Great novelty to show friends.
Very sluggish. Very rough ride particularly on country roads. MPG not even close to what is stated..
Previous car was a BMW 520i; the Prius is probably faster. Great car, lovely to drive. MPG late 40|s. Luxury pack with cruise & 5 CD /9 speaker is great. CVT fantastic. Electric p/s is much better than usual Toyota light steering..
Excellent alternative to big large capacity engine luxury automatic, and safer too.Substantially cheaper than rival cars of same body size especially if your requirements are 5 seats, automatic gearbox aswell as climate cruise control 6 airbags, and active skid control(extras on rivals).Very relaxing around town or stuck in traffic, zero vibration or noise and the smug feeling that you can sit there going nowhere like everyone around you,BUT you're the only one not wasting fuel!Very quick from the lights and at overtaking. When you park just press the power off button and the parking brake automatically engages...very convenient.Real world mpg of 45 to 55mpg with best of 63mpg when N11 roadworks kept average speeds to 40mph. Great conversation piece and enviromentally friendly with cheap tax and insurance. Also because of fly by wire acelerator and electric motors with computer control this car has excellent traction in muddy fields,in fact one of the few two wheel drive cars not to get stuck in grass car park.Against this my only real complaint is traction control that over reacts when acelerating hard away from a slippy junction, perhaps, some rather than zero wheelspin would be safer. Every other car else now seems dated and HEAVY..
I find toyota prius the best car on the market, having driven most cars from most manufacturers I find this one fantastic. Accelaration very fast, interior very comfortable, security very good, safety 100%. It is true that you do not get 67 mpg in the town, however I have managed to get 74.6 mpg out of this car when it has been driven without any undue acceleration. The test was done over 50 miles of driving. I would recommend this car to anyone considering a new car..
This motor is just a breath of fresh air. My wife didn't want to buy this because she thought it was too gadgety - 10 minutes of her driving around in it and now I can't get it back!! Great economy, great performance for the tax/insurance bracket. Loads of room inside. I am just so happy with it. dealer service from toyota was great too..
This car is way more powerful than a regular 1.5. It is smooth, very comfortable and brilliant for transporting things, plenty of room in the boot and it is huge with the back seats down. Gets more economical as mileage goes up so I'd recommend buying 2nd hand. Also, read the websites to get the best out of this car, you can really max out the mileage if you use a few little tricks..
excellent car, first car I have been in with no ashtray provided ? Im not that enviromentally friendly. Great conversation car everybody wanrs to know about it.
keeps cutting out in traffic.
Huge boot space as this is a Hatch will take half and half fridge freezer or Electric Cooker almost anything you can think of Very simple to maintain garage has standard price of about 120 euro Watch the drivers seat for wear as it is a giveaway if it has been used as Rep Mobile Brilliant is the only way to descibe the dealer service i had small prob with wipers after about 3months drove in they replaced Wipers Free of charge This is really the beat car i ever Droe or owned,It has plenty of power when you need to overtake, The bonus is Fuel Consumption up to 100 km pg And you can squeeze more out of it by really diving in a steady manner.
The boot is not v big- think fiesta/corsa size. There is a hybrid battery fitted behind the rear seats that take some of the space. The back seats do recline(40/60split) so you can expand your boot size and shape What everyone fear about this car! The hybrid system does not need any servicing. The car is as easy to service like any other car. Actualy is very easy and cheap to maintain- the oil required is quite standard, but less than other engines, and because it uses regeneration system for the brakes-well before all this fancy cars nowadays- you don't need to change the brake pads or disks any sooner than maybe 100-120k miles !!! And the engine has a timing chain and not a belt so you don't have to worry about that either. As regards to any other parts, I read that some of them are interchangable with other toyota cars( RAV4, corolla) and they are not that expensive to purchase anyway. MAKE SURE THAT THE HYBRID SYSTEM IS NOT FAULTY( BATTERY, GENERATORS, ETC). That would make for very expensive repairs. The bodywork is alluminium-so NO RUST ever- and make sure that it wasn't involved in a havy crash or stuck in a big flood. My story is long and still paintfull. Details can be supplied at personal request. For the time I owned the Prius(bar from the initial trouble) I could not fault it. V economical, V smooth and confortable, V reliable as toyota reputation stands. My experience with one specific TOYOTA dealer was exceptional. Open to consultation, advice and ( unusualy for a main dealer) getting involved with repairing and maintaining my car(..... jap import.......). However I am not so impressed with TOYOTA corporation to the level that It will be awhile before I'll buy another one of their products.(part of my long story....) this review may not be relevant to many but I would like to share my views to the world. This model was originaly sold in Ireland but in very small numbers(the price new and new technology were the main deterents). My car(sold now) came as private japanese import. It had v few differences from the Irish model- all cosmetics-. As a normal car Prius came with lots goodies- to many to list- at a level found normaly in luxury cars. The ride of the car is v comfortable- the suspension setting offered a silencious ride-but at a cost of control in the corners. It doesn't like to be rushed through the bends. It's concept is based on smoothness and economy and not on a sporty drive. The gear box is a CVT type- common on many hybrid cars -and for easy understanding works a bit like the one in a moped. there are no specific gears that change but it is always changing pending on necesity. it takes awhile to get use to it before you can make the best of it. The engine is a bit different than normal OTTO cycle. It is design to work with this type of gearbox and it has a low torque and it is designed for low emissions and economy. It is a bit rough at high revs but together with the hybrid system offer as much power as a standard 2 litre engine. If you ignore the way the hybrid system works and the noise of the engine when you accelerate harder, you will never lack the power. THE ENGINE NOISE TOGETHER WITH THE ECONOMY DISPLAY REALLY TEACHES YOU TO DRIVE V ECONOMICAL. The car is economical anyway but by learning from it you can expect 50-60mpg in town and on the open road. The steering of the car is electricaly assisted and doesn't offer much feel to it. For soft comfy drive it is good enough..
