Excellent, one of the best for this size of car Low maintenance. I had 1 for about 4 years and never left me stranded EGR valves tend to give a bit of trouble. If left, can cause engine trouble. None really to mention but i've heard they are good to deal with Car is excellent to drive. Good power even with a 1.4L. Very good 1st car, lots of space, lots of extras and good value for money.
Plenty big Routine. Never broke down and I have owned 2. Usual, try to get low mileage and make sure no hidden damage. Fantastic. Opel dealers are great to deal with. Lovely cars to drive. I have owned 2, 2001 Gold Model with black leather seats and then a 2002 Black model with cream leather seats. I found them both great fun to drive, look better than most Coupes on the road. You can fit three adults in the back with no neck straining do plenty of interior space. Great specs available, leather seats, cruise control, alloy wheels. Great value for money..
The boot is quite big considering the look of the car isn't huge. It fits my two dogs comfortably in it and all my shopping! I got it serviced twice now in the 15 months I've had it and both times nothing extra needed to be done. Very reliable car. Absolutely nothing. I just love my car! I deal with Rice and Roddy in Dundalk, Co. Louth and they have been excellent to deal with. I love it! Its a great car. Good on petrol and very comfortable to drive..
Good boot space considering the roof top space that is needed. Golf clubs etc is no problem Every 15000 miles Make sure roof is in good nick and working fine. Check oil pressure switch Found to be good when I have dealt with them. Had a recall for the oil pressure switch and they were very helpful Great Car to drive. Handling is a bit off in the wet..
Fits my buggy and toys. That's all I care about. Well, I haven't been left at the side of the road while Daddy uses bad words at a smoking pile of engine parts. So that's nice. Spend a little extra and get aircon. I hate when Daddy opens the window. Weren't you listening? I was a foetus when he bought this. If the test drive was when I think it was, I didn't bang my head off the placenta during it, nor was there much shouting. So that's good, right? Just so we're clear - I'm ten months old. Dad had this car well before I was born, so I didn't get much say in the matter. I've been watching Top Gear lately, and I think I'd prefer one of them shiny spaceship looking ones - Aston Martin, is it? Or failing that, Handy Manny's truck. Especially if it has talking tools. This will do the job, I guess - there's room in the back for my Britax Prince seat and I can't reach to kick the back of Daddy's chair - so that keeps him quiet. I wish he'd turn down the radio, though - it's hard enough to hear my Sesame Street DVDs (Nana bought me a DVD player for long trips) over the road noise even when Daddy's not blaring his terrible music..
Coming back from a recent trip to France we managed to get in a large buggy, a travel cot, a reasonably big wheeled suitcase, an overnight bag, a laptop bag and a dozen bottles of wine. No complaints here. Not quite enough room for all the shopping, too - but I think that says more about us than the Astra. Let's just move on. To be honest, it's well overdue a service - Mostly due to laziness on my part as the advertised rates seem quite reasonable at the moment. The previous owner kept the receipts, and nothing on them seemed outrageously expensive, nor were there any worryingly frequent or large-scale replacements or repairs. There seem to be a lot of very basic models out there. I can't help but wonder if I'd shopped around a bit more would I have got a few more bells and whistles (or at least somewhere to plug in my iPod.) Went to Airside Opel for this one. Absolutely first class. Friendly, knowledgeable, helpful - didn't follow us around the lot (this is a good thing), but were easy to find when we had questions. I'd definitely go back to them, and definitely recommend them. When I first bought my Astra a little over a year ago, I was looking at it as a step down. I had a Land Rover which had started making very worrying noises and only making it a month or two between services, and with a heavily pregnant wife I wanted something that could make it to the Rotunda without spraying metal parts all over the M1. So by necessity, came the Astra. Smaller, lighter, cheaper and, at least in this case, more reliable. And you know what? I've never looked back. I'm not going to say I don't look jealously at other cars - I work opposite a Jaguar garage after all - but it's a nice, basic car. There's good visibility all round, a tight turning circle, plenty of legroom and all the buttons are quite handily located. I bought the absolute most basic version - there's no aircon, a very basic stereo and a few other little blanking plates around the cockpit that make you wonder what you're missing out on. It's fairly nippy - I haven't worked out 0-100km/h times or anything, but unless you're carrying heavy loads and/or in a 'Fast and the Furious' style drag race, you probably won't have any complaints. We were looking at a few different cars at the time - the Ford Focus, Mazda 6, Peugeot 307 and the Battlestar Galactica version of the Honda Civic. The Astra was, at the time, the best we could do from a low mileage/low price point of view..
if this car was started for a short period it was near impossible to get it to fire up again something about valves staying open people who praise opel have not yet driven a good car.
Great looking car, but it needs a 1.6 engine..
performance is poor from a small car, ride is hard on good roads never mind bad ones.these cars can't be given away at the minute. i guess there right when they say the day you buy is the day you'l sell!!.
Superb performance from turbo diesel engine..
Lovely looking car but does not live up to the looks under the engine. Poor power for overtaking..
Great little car for nipping about in. Quick of the mark and great to look at.
great car lovely to drive i would defo buy another opel.
great car.can be elegant and a little spolilers sports..
ive had my astra four years + its been a great car to drive, lots of extras with a comfortable ride and space...
Very sporty car. Solid cornering ability. Comfortable driving position, responsive steering on street and country roads. Economical engine. Smooth gearbox, nice ratio to allow overtaking when required. No problems with electronics. Multi-function steering allows control without distracting from driving. Nice bright audio quality from CD and radio, solid bass and treble..
second review on same car two years on! have had issues with this car, never had these problems with my old focus, although i love it when all is going well! optional kit for the car is shocking for my taste!i-pod??? the cd player cant even play mp3 cds! and my issue with the dealer was that i knew more about the car than he did! but maybe thats not suprising to others??? l.v opel by the way! but maybe i have been unlucky!.
reliability good strangely enough for an Opel, but design is bland and doesn't really stand out i.m.o..
great value for your money. good to drive..
Fantastic car. This is my second. I had a 1.8 Gold with full black leather and currently 1.8 Black with full cream leather, both were really great looking. Price is great, performance is excellent, I had a 1.3 Mitsubishi Asti that consumed as much petrol as these 1.8's. Buy one..
would consider buyin another astra as next car.
i have 137000 miles on her and she runs like a clock and i would buy any opel again.
It's now got 164,000 km on it, does 100kph in under 9 seconds and has averaged 49.5 mpg, it's the only car I've ever had that I'll exchange for an identical model. This is only available in Ireland on special order, but it's worth it for that 150 bhp diesel (which is actually a FIAT engine!).
No engine problems. Looks very well in 3dr silver with alloys. Wing mirror plastic covering came off, i have seen other astras with same problem. Lovely interior compared to other makes in same category..
Sunroof was a gift as there was no air conditioning in my model. Extremely reliable and was my first car..
Really nice car, comfort, mutch for a good price.
Great car..Nothing nicer on the market new..I love it...but... my 03 focus was a WAY better drive. Pretty basic inside (although nice and not as dull as a golf), no where to put mobile r mp3 player, and im glad I don't have to carry a load of baggage often because on the sport hatch the boot is big but because of the design you cant fit anything in it.....
looks great with the leather seats(heated)wouldnt get this car with out it.You would be very disappointed if bought one then saw one with leather.Plenty of power when needed for overtaking. Not too bad on gas,547km per 40ltrs in the city.
All these problems happened in 18 months! Handles well, relatively quick and comfortable..
In two years, the car hasn't let me down once, it could have done with a bit more of an exciting interior and more comfortable seats, but it drives fantastic and holds the road as good as any car i've ever driven..
The GLS model had much more comfortable seat than the standard Astra. Also had a sunroof (non elec) and heated electric mirrors which are very handy with our cold mornings. Also handy for the cold mornings is an outside temperature gauge but that's fitted to most standard Astras from '95 on. This model also came with rear headrests (wow!)... The performance of the 12v engine was actually ok in my opinion. Road handling wasn't the worst either. Especially with the larger 15" GLS alloys..
a dream buy. never had a single problem. haven't looked under the bonnet in 3 years.
As you can see - I love this car. Super performance from this great diesel engine. A real head turner.Looks great in any colour. I was tempted to buy the new 2.0 petrol OPC recently but have turned into a diesel fanatic! The Sports Button really adds to the enjoyment of this car..
Good looks - powerful - reasonable mpg - sports button - excellent roadholding - comfortable..
Good looks - powerful - reasonable mpg - sports button - excellent roadholding - comfortable..
fantasic looks & road holding. Plenty of grunt from 80kph to 140kph..
I bought this car when it was 4 yo & kept it 7 years. No problems until this year (its 11 yo now, 85k on the clock, though I just put up about 35k) GOOD: Comfortable, huge boot space (hatchback) BAD: a bit sluggish, soft suspension, mediocre handling, image. Shouldve lasted a bit longer, mileage is still low after all. Poverty spec car, no central locking even. OVERALL: Fantastic value. 7 years 30k miles. depreciation in this time just 6000 euro, and I spent 1000 euro on unscheduled repairs. So, dead money cost was just 1000 euro a year. beat that!.
